For a different way to spend Monday night, check out Amphibian Productions’ staged reading of Jon Robin Baitz’s play Three Hotels at 7pm tonight at the Modern. Tix are $15.

Originally written as a teleplay for PBS-TV’s American Playhouse series, Baitz’s 1994 script is composed of three monologues spoken by an American businessman and his wife in three different international hotel rooms. The businessman has overseen an ad campaign for a consumer product that has devastating effects on a Third World country. As the play proceeds, audiences learn the American couple has experienced their own family tragedy as a result of culture clashes. For those into lists, Time declared Three Hotels one of the top ten plays of 1994.
