Breaking news from the Van Cliburn Foundation: Jacques Marquis has had the “interim” tag removed from his position there and been named the president and CEO of that organization. When I interviewed Marquis for the profile of him that we ran earlier this year, I got the impression that the Cliburn would wait until after the competition to decide whether to keep him on afterwards, but it would appear that his handling of the Cliburn’s affairs during the past few months (which included the screening auditions for the competition) was enough to land him the permanent job. Now the competition can go on this summer with its future direction secured.
