Fort Worth bluesman Casey James made the first cut in Hollywood during last night’s American Idol auditions.

James, a young cat with a cool voice and impressive guitar skills, is a dark horse in this year’s competition. He needs more charisma, according to the judges, but he’s got some chops.

And he’s obviously willing to do what it takes to make it to the top, including strutting and stripping down for the cougars during his first audition: (“I’m willing to do anything that I need to do,” he told Kara DioGuardi. “Really?” she said. Within seconds he’s shirtless).

When James isn’t hobnobbing with Simon Cowell and gang, he’s a frequent face at Keys Lounge and other local venues.

Should James nab the title, Fort Worth could boast two Idol winners. (Fort Worth native Kelly Clarkson was the original Idol winner).

This Hollywood Gossip site is spreading a rumor that James is among the Top 24 contestants to be named on the Feb. 17 episode.

Here’s something that confuses me — James’ hometown is Cool, Texas, about 45 minutes west of here. If I were a musician appearing on Idol and I was from a town called Cool, I’d sure as hell claim it. Maybe he did, but the producers listed Fort Worth. I’ll try to Facebook James and see what he says about it.

  2. i thought you were great… I agree with Simon (dont do that often) you needed to work on your charisma but when you let your hair down and took off your shirt.. all that went out the window.. Shallow I know. I’m so glad you got a 2nd chance, you definitely proved you were worth it.. You were great and only got better. I’ll be watching and rooting for you!!! GOOD LUCK!!

  4. Casey James is good-looking, humble, and sings great. He has all the attributes of a perfect American Idol. I think he has already won.

  6. I don’t think it was a lack of charisma. I think it is a natural calm that is part of his total charm. I think he has had some real life experience that has helped him to develop some character. I think he is charming in ALL the right ways. I would buy his music.

  9. Casey, you are brilliant and I would love to see you as the next American Idol. You have everything you need and more. Your singing voice has blues grit and soul all rolled into a beautiful whisky and honey liqueur voice that has captivated me for months since you first auditioned. It must feel strange to have all these people writing things about you. I hope you realise we all just want the best for you. I have supported you from day one and I was just so happy when you sang ‘Jealous Guy’ Your performance was mind blowing and reached out to so many people. I loved to see the raw emotion that the song words invoke. You managed to speak volumes, to so many, in a few seconds. Brilliant Casey just BRILLIANT !!

  10. Congratulations Casey!! Don’t change anything! You are an original. Your so called “lack of charisma” is really a “lack of fake”. You appear clean, fresh, humble, musicial magician with the eyes, smile, guitar skills and with a tender whiskey honey voice that sends me away!! Your Jealous Guy, Heaven and Dont were my favorite performances, Dont Stop was so cool with those guitar skills.. let it rip!! Love your talent also the duet with Mike !! Passion and Skills– You will go all they way. Please put out a CD of tenderness and love, we all need it! Leave the screaming to the others. Rock On!!
