The humorist and cartoonist James Thurber (1894-1961) gets a very welcome appreciation as SceneShop presents two readings entitled “Men. Women. Dogs. A Thurber Celebration.” ‘Shopsters Natalie Gaupp, Melodee Halbach, Peggy Bott Kirby, James Ekstrom, Nicholas Irion, and Steven Alan McGaw take turns with Thurber’s fiction and essays. The man could be generous and sharply funny at the same time, a combination you don’t often see anymore. “A Thurber Celebration” happens 7:30 Thursday June 17 in Space 143 of the Fine Arts Building, UTA, Arlington and 2pm Saturday June 19 in the auditorium of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Both presentations are free.
