MUSICIAN AND D.J. CHARLA CORN TOURS THE STATE ON WEEKENDS.

This week’s “Music” feature offers a chat with the delightful Charla Corn, Texas music singer-songwriter and 3-7pm drive time deejay over at FM 95.9 The Ranch. The Panhandle native writes hook-laden crowd pleasers for the boot-scootin’ set. A former American Idol contestant, she also had a cameo part in last summer’s atrocious CMT reality show Texas Women, though the ultra-cool blond Texas chick is less than thrilled about how that program depicted blond Texas chicks. Fun fact: Her fans are so passionate, they like to call themselves “Corn stalkers.”

Here’s Corn in an ultra-slick video for her ballad “Lie A Little,” but I prefer the dressed down, shades and sneakers Corn in this live version of “She Ain’t Always Been an Angel.” She’s a major fan of folk blues performer Susan Tedeschi; if this live Tedeschi version of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” doesn’t give you goosebumps, you’re dead. Ditto for Patty Griffin’s studio version of the haunting “When It Don’t Come Easy”; Corn is a big time Griffin fan, too.
