Just in time for your Samhain/Toussaint/Dia de los Muertos/Halloween binge-watching pleasure: The first episodes of the new vampire web series Morganville are now available. Partially funded by the crowd-sourcing of rabid international fans, Morganville is based, of course, on the bestselling series of YA fantasy novels by Fort Worth-based author Rachel Caine, whom the Weekly profiled more than three and a half years ago. The episodes were filmed with a cast of ridiculously attractive young performers at locations around North Texas, including Dallas’ historic Paul Quinn College. The Morganville books follow the adventures of a young college student named Claire who quickly discovers that the West Texas university town where she attends classes is run by bloodsuckers.

While filmed on a tight schedule with a relatively low budget, Morganville: The Series has better acting, writing, and production values than you might expect. The web series was sneak-previewed not only at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, but at a London fantasy and horror con where a packed house of 1500 young fans gathered to watch. Not too shabby for a li’l ol’ Cowtown scribe.
