McKinney Cop Resigns
Eric Casebolt, the McKinney police corporal who had an unbelievable meltdown seen by millions when he went crazy, chasing, cursing and physically abusing black teens at a community pool party last Friday, June 5, has voluntarily resigned. McKinney’s Chief of Police Greg Conley acknowledged that Casebolt was “out of control” during his rampage but that he would still collect pension and benefits. Unless clearer heads prevail and he’s indicted for menacing, assault, pulling a weapon unnecessarily, or somesuch.
Parents of High Schoolers Ready for Suicide
OK, that’s not true and it’s not a news story. But as a parent of a teen who ended school a day or two ago, I can tell you that the prospect of having the little devils around for two months without a break sounds wonderful but won’t be. They eat, need attention, need to be driven to parties and friends houses, don’t like to work because they’re “on vacation,” and sometimes talk back. Happy summer, parents!

Abortion Clinics Under the Gun
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled yesterday that the draconian laws enacted in Texas related to abortion clinics—but which also provide countless other health services to women throughout the state—are legal. As a result, half of the extant clinics that perform abortion services are expected to shut down immediately. That will leave seven abortion clinics in all of Texas, and more than a million women more than 150 miles from one. The Texas laws that were ruled on include abortion providers having admitting privileges at a local hospital and a requirement that clinics upgrade their facilities to near hospital standards.  The Center for Reproductive Rights has asked the 5th Circuit Court to put the ruling on hold pending an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
