It’s hard to imagine, but we’ve got only two weeks left in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This six-week spectacular came with eight built-in days off called “rest days,” and four of them are coming up, including today, Wed, Jul 8. Wednesdays are for reading the Weekly. But then what?

While there is a match at 3pm — France vs. Morocco in the quarterfinals — you’ve got plenty of time after the game to stop by Second Thursday at the Carter. At 5pm, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (3501 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, 817-738-1933) hosts an evening of cocktails, conversations, and live music. The theme of this month’s event is Drink & Draw. Cocktails will be available for purchase in the atrium. Then, head to the Lounge from 5pm to 8pm to put pencil to paper and draw your own sketch themed around works in the museum’s permanent collection. RSVP for free at CarterMuseum.com.
Friday – Saturday, July 10-11, 2026
There are three World Cup matches this weekend. First, Spain vs. Belgium is at 2pm on Friday. On Saturday, the two matches are Norway vs. England at 4pm, then the winners of Argentina/Egypt and Switzerland/Colombia at 8pm. Instead (or after), it might be fun to check out Totally Made-Up Musical at Circle Theatre (230 W 4th St, Fort Worth, 817-877-3040) in Sundance Square, not far from the Summer of Soccer outdoor World-Cup watching parties. This full-length improvised show features actors, musicians, and you — yes, there’s audience participation — creating musical theater on the spot. Tickets to the 8pm performances Sat-Sun are $20 at CircleTheatre.com.

Ah, finally a day of rest. No FIFA, no problem. Go to brunch. Take a dip in the pool. Then, at 6:30pm, head to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History (1600 Gendy St, Fort Worth, 817-255-9300) for your moment of zen. SE7EN WAVES: Sound Bath Under the Stars screens inside the Omni Theater. Artist Matthew Riley will be creating immersive soundscapes, and Aisha Conner will play the flute and do ethereal vocals. Tickets are $50 at FWMuseun.org.

The World Cup final is here! As part of this much-anticipated FIFA finale, for the first time in the history of the #BeautifulGame, there will be a halftime show: hip-shaking Shakira will perform along with BTS and Madonna at the final at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, and she’s even written a special song for the occasion. The match starts at 2pm, after which we can all go back to our regularly scheduled programming.
