Poag Mahone’s will celebrate its grand re-opening on Thursday. The Irish pub has relocated from a building on West 7th Street to a building about 10 feet away at the intersection of West 7th and Carroll Street. The impetus behind the change is Matt McEntire, who owns both buildings –– before Poag’s took over the building at 2710 West 7th, McEntire’s own pub, the Shamrock, was there. He remodeled 700 Carroll Street, intending to move the Shamrock there. But since some customers still associated 2710 with McEntire, McEntire decided to move Poag’s to 700 and insert himself into his old spot at 2710. Poag’s co-owners will be paying higher rent but in return will have a brand-spanking new –– and slightly larger –– room. McEntire stands to get his old regulars back.
