Here’s one for the personal planner: Next Monday night (December 7), make your way to The Modern for Amphibian Productions’ 7pm staged reading of Becky Mode’s frantic one-man comedy ”Fully Committed.” The 70 minute show features ‘Phibber Carmen Lacivita as the besieged reservationist at Manhattan’s trendiest restaurant during the height of its popularity. He also plays the reservationist’s Midwestern dad, the restaurant’s chef, its maitre d’, and a series of demanding New York celebs and power brokers. Fellow ‘Phibber Evan Mueller directs.

The phrase “staged reading” implies a simple setup and a patience for imperfection, of course, but don’t let that deter you: A talented actor like Lacivita can turn that opportunity into creative space where a stronger connection with the writer’s words is possible. Audience members, in turn, feel like co-conspirators in the event – often more so than at a full-fledged production. A $10-15 contribution is as appreciated as it is needed.
