Dear Modern Science: Please make up your mind about whether I’m supposed to be happy or not. In the past few years, researchers have told me that I’m happier in my current unmarried, childless state, and then corrected that with other studies suggesting no, I’m actually miserable and lonely. Now it seems that as a night owl, I will forever suffer a deficit of positive feelings compared to my distant cousins in humanity, the morning people. This makes me want to punch them even more. How do I know this research is valid? Because it was published in a scientific journal titled Emotion.
