Wednesday 17 – It’s getting to be that time of the baseball season, when teams stare down the trading deadline and decide whether to load up for a playoff run or shed expensive players for future prospects. Both the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks could go either way, so as they face off tonight, it’s worth pondering who might join these teams or leave. The game starts at 7pm at Globe Life Park, 1901 Rd to Six Flags, Arlington. Tickets are $20-225. Call 817-273-5100.

Thursday 18 – Fathom Events has often brought drum corps performances to our movie theaters, but tonight you can see it live at DCI North Texas. Many of the bands that perennially compete on those specials will be here in person (such as the Cavaliers of Rosemont, Illinois, and the Cadets of Allentown, Pennsylvania), as well as Fort Worth’s own Lone Star Drum & Bugle Corps, at 7pm at Apogee Stadium, 1251 S Bonnie Brae St, Denton. Tickets are $33-58. Call 317-275-1212.

Friday 19 – Were the press in better financial shape, someone would employ Christopher Soden as a regular theater critic. The big man with a personality to match is a freelance reviewer who exhaustively covers the North Texas theater scene, and he’ll be here at Stage West to sign copies of his book of collected play reviews, Delicate Tiger, Ferocious Snowflake, at 6pm at 821 W Vickery Blvd, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-784-9378.

Saturday 20 – Today is the 50th anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11 on the Moon, and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has a whole raft of events commemorating the occasion. Tonight, Morgan Rehnberg, an up-and-coming headliner in the field of astronomy (are you glad we didn’t call him a “star”?), lectures on the space race in a time before he was born, starting at 5pm at 1600 Gendy St, FW. Admission is free, but reservations are required. Call 817-255-9300.

Sunday 21 – Hip Pocket Theatre continues with its world premiere of Arcadia Darling, John Dyer’s fantasia on the Peter Pan story that merges the familiar fairytale with some of J.M. Barrie’s less familiar stories and details from the author’s life. The show runs thru Aug 4 at 1950 Silver Creek Dr, FW. Tickets are $5-20. Call 817-246-9775.

Monday 22 – Oscar winners and nominees galore dot This Changes Everything, a documentary about the imbalance of gender power in the film industry. Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Chastain, and others examine their own experiences and what is being done now to make Hollywood a more equitable place at 7:30pm at various movie theaters. Check Calendar for showtimes. Tickets are $12.50. Call 818-761-6100.

Tuesday 23 – As always, the NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular showcases the best and most skilled horses when it comes to cutting individual livestock animals from a herd. It also provides you some respite from the heat of the high season, as well as something to go to during a time of the year that’s often dead. The event runs thru Aug 4 at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum, 3301 W Lancaster Av, FW. Admission is free. Call 817-244-6188.
