Wednesday 04 – Christie Wood is an expert on stained glass, having founded Art Glass Ensembles in 1995 and designed work for the Oscars. Now, the UNT graduate delivers a lecture on Historically Significant Stained Glass in Denton for people interested in local examples of the artistic medium, starting at 6:45pm at Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 E Hickory St, Denton. Thursday 05 –The Bad Feminist herself, Roxane Gay comes to UNT this evening to critique our pop culture and society. The much-feted op-ed writer has spoken out on surviving sexual assault, as well as becoming the first black woman ever to write for Marvel Comics with her contributions to the Black Panther series. Friday 06 –The art shows at Fort Worth Community Arts Center (see: sidebar) aren’t the only thing worth going there for this weekend. Fort Worth Fringe occupies the stage space with performances of short plays and one-person shows performed by actors from as far away as Essex, England. Saturday 07 –How do you like your chicken wings? Lemon pepper? BBQ? Mango habanero? Whichever it is, you’ll find something to suit your palate at the first-ever Arlington Wing Festival at Texas Live! Sunday 08 – Don’t we all wish Molly Ivins were still around? These times would have been tailored to the Texan journalist’s brand of humorous cruelty to people who abuse political power, as Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins makes clear. Janice Engel’s documentary is an indifferent piece of filmmaking, but Ivins’ words retain their power. The movie screens Fri thru today at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Monday 09 – All the way from Charlotte, The Artisanals liven up a dull Monday evening by appearing at Magnolia Motor Lounge. The psychedelic Southern rock group has a few Texas ties and is coming up on the first anniversary of its founding. They take the stage at 9:30pm at 3005 S Morton St, FW. Call 817-332-3344.

Tuesday 10 – We’re all about the women writers on this week’s page, aren’t we? Margaret Atwood: Live in Cinemas is the launch of the Canadian author’s long-awaited sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, which features an interview with Atwood and celebrities reading from the new book.
